Providing care and assistance to meet the daily needs of the children of Haiti has been an on-going mission of the Brothers since 1995.
The Sheepfold of the Good Shepherd in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, provides encouraging care and support to over 80 resident orphans and upwards of 300 day students, numerous needy families and dozens of graduate students. The Sheepfold of the Good Shepherd is an oasis of possibility and opportunity for youngsters who would otherwise be part of the street population, adrift and without hope.
The ministry started with an emergency food program that then led to an orphanage being opened to take in homeless boys. In 1995 a primary school was opened to provide education to the children in the orphanage as well as poor children living in the immediate area. In 1996 a dispensary was opened to provide nursing care to the young men in the orphanage, and in 1997 a bakery was built as a food source for the orphanage and as a means of additional income to support the orphanage.
