Who We Are

Brothers1 (12x8)

Order:
The Hospitaller Order of St. John of God is an Order of the Catholic Church. It draws its inspiration from the life, example and teaching of its founder – St. John of God. The basis of his life, example and teaching was a deep sense of hospitality which opened him to every person he met and moved him to do everything in his power to help them in their needs. The Order, endeavoring to maintain, deepen and perpetuate this hospitality towards others as an integral part of the life of God’s people, carries out a wide range of health and social service activities in 52 countries on 5 continents. The membership of the Order consists of 1099 Brothers who come from 51 countries. The Co-workers who partner the Brothers in their activities number approximately 40,000.

Strictly speaking, the Order is composed of men who belong to the religious family popularly known as the Brothers of St. John of God. However, the term ‘Order’ also is taken to indicate the persons and activities of the thousands of Co-workers, men and women, who, throughout the world, provide a wide range of health care and social welfare programs in centers and services that perpetuate the work for the poor, sick and needy commenced by St. John of God in the first half of the 16th century in Granada and southern Spain.

The fortunes of the religious family – the Brothers – have waxed and waned through the four and a half centuries of its life with periods of great expansion and other periods of retrenchment in the face of adverse social, political and ecclesial circumstances. Like many religious institutes today, the Order could be said to be in a period of ‘institutional’ waning. However Brothers and Co-workers are also actively developing a ‘new hospitality’ that responds to the new poor and the new needs of today. It is very evident that more persons are being assisted by the Order throughout the world today than ever before in its history.

Province:
On January 19, 2015 the General Council officially erected the Province of the Good Shepherd in North America. The new Province comprises the centers of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd in North America (United States, Canada and Haiti) which were incorporated into the Order on the same day, the houses of the Canadian General Delegation and the Center at Westville Grove which had previously belonged to the West Europe Province.

Wish I could be there. Still recovering from foot surgery.

RIP Br. Bill.

RIP, Brother Bill! He was very gentle and kind.....was my superior, when we were stationed together, in Albuquerque, at a small home we had for the Mentally-challenged (Notre Dame on the Rio Grande) I was in my very early twenties I believe it was in 1969-'70. ..those Good, ol' Days!

I loved my uncle! Please let me know when the New Mexico service will be. I am currently in NM until July 5

So sorry for your loss

RIP Brother Bill, it was a true honor to work with you. I'm proud to have known your generous soul.

Today, we are celebrating Brother Bill's life.

Br. William (Bill) Osmanski was born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, the middle of three sons. He was a life-long Phillies and Eagles fan, and was the proud uncle to ten nephews and nieces. He would have been 81 this coming December. He was a humble man of God, a friend and cherished co-worker.

Enjoy this video of Brother Bill sharing what Camillus is.

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

He's going to be greatly missed by our family.

Brother Bill was such a dear soul; kind, always smiling. He was Christ's hands on earth. Always reaching out to others.

I can hear his laugh in this picture. ❤️.

I will miss my uncle so much. I love this photo of him

🙏🙏

What a wonderful man. May he Rest In Peace.

R.I.P my good brother Bill... thanks a lot for your love, passion, Service, for your friendship, good example to follow Jesus... I'm so Sad. All my prayers to you bro

I love u so much and being u were my godfather. Hurts even more. Rest with God...

I will miss him! It is truly my pleasure to have been of service to Camillus House for over a decade with him. Brother Bill was a kind and generous soul, who exemplified everything hospitality represents.

Would someone post the funeral arrangements? I would like to attend. There's never been a person with such an amazing impact on my life as was Br. Bill. We had the best conversations. He was as real as they come. He loved everyone. I hear his laugh as he told me so many of his hilarious stories. He would often call me the Cincinnati kid and said every time the Phillies played the Reds he would think of me. He loved being a religious and especially Br Mathias. There was no one better at sharing the Gospel through their work than Br. Bill. May angels guide you and bring you into paradise: and may all the martyrs come forth to welcome you home; and may they lead you into the holy city, Jerusalem. May the angel chorus sing to welcome you, and like Lazarus forgotten and poor, you shall have everlasting rest.
