St John of God Retirement and Care Center
The Provincial, accompanied by his Council, recently conducted a pastoral visit to our community and ministries in Los Angeles. During their time with us, they engaged in meaningful dialogue with both coworkers and Brothers, while also sharing many beautiful moments with the residents entrusted to our care.
Our ministry at St. John of God Retirement and Care Center, along with our other ministries serving the elderly, continually reminds us of the sacred dignity of life. These encounters offer a living example of what it means to journey in the spirit of St. John of God, marked by hospitality, compassion, and reverence for each person.
Many of the residents graciously shared their life stories, and several spoke about the hobbies and talents that continue to bring them joy and fulfillment. One such resident, Sister Eileen, shared her artistic gifts and reflected on how she used her talents throughout her life to help others come to know and appreciate Jesus.
Brother Nick, Prior of the Los Angeles Community, enjoyed a delightful evening meal with two residents, ages 103 and 105. Their conversation was rich with wisdom and insight, leading to a thoughtful discussion on strengthening our ministry and celebrating the extraordinary gift that our elderly population brings to our communities.
During this visit, Brother Nick Foran was formally installed as the new Prior, while Brother Peter Gelfer was prayerfully sent forth with our blessing as he begins his new assignment with our community in Miami, Florida.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Brothers, coworkers, and residents who so warmly welcomed and hosted us during this pastoral visit. Their hospitality, dedication, and witness to our shared mission made this visit a truly memorable and grace-filled experience.
